Spectacled Bear

The spectacled bear gets its name from the distinctive rings of white or beige fur around its eyes. These markings stand out against the rest of the bear, which is usually black or dark brown, and look like eyeglasses (or spectacles).

Friends of the Zoo Banner

Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, established in 1970, is proud of its relationship with Onondaga County and the wider community and of its longstanding history of providing a world-class zoo to visitors from Central New York and beyond.

Friends of the Zoo is a non-profit organization and dedicated partner of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The Friends organization provides financial support through funds dedicated to the welfare of the zoo's animals, educational programs and family-friendly facilities.
