Position Description: Assists Birthday Party Supervisor in providing fun, safe, activities during birthday parties for children; Part-time, non-exempt position; Employment pending criminal and driver history records; Promotes the Zoo and its mission.

Responsible to: Event Manager

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists in providing safe, enjoyable and manageable parties for children.
  • May be assigned to parties in the Banquet Room, Alcove or Gazebo.
  • Prepares party space for children and families.
  • Assists children in completing hands on activities.
  • Cleans party area following each party; prepares party area for next party.
  • Adheres to Zoo policies and protocols

 Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attends departmental meetings and trainings as requested.
  • Performs other duties as requested.

Desired Training and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children.
  • Works well with supervisor and other staff.
  • Communicates regularly with Event Coordinator.

 Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Must be organized.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Must communicate well with children and adults.

  • Follow Honey Bee Café cash handling procedures when operating the cash register and/or cash bank.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates the ability to produce food orders in a timely, neat and organized manner to the specifications of each dish and needs of the guest.
  • Prep proteins, chop, slice, dice, peel, and portion fruits and vegetables, following portion control, food quality, and safe food handling standards.
  • Safely operate and sanitize food slicer.
  • Wear PPE throughout shift which may include mask, gloves, hairnet/hat, apron, and non-slip shoes to ensure safety.

  • Demonstrates the ability to keep workstation organized and produces required quantity according to demands of station. Identifies, utilizes and builds knowledge base of specific culinary terms per assigned outlet (i.e. grilling, dicing, etc.).
  • Practices ‘clean as you go’ habits, and leaves the workspace clean, organized, and sanitized.
  • Adheres to all Honey Bee Cafe policies and Health Department Guidelines.
  • Strong communication with Supervisor for approval to leave assigned area for breaks, any guest service concerns, broken equipment or problems with the kitchen areas.

Café Associate Job Tasks:

  • Change soda syrup BIBs, and CO2 canisters for all soda fountain locations
  • Utilizes exceptional time management, responds promptly when paged or radioed.

  • Exhibits extreme care when handling dishware, glassware, silver ware and food product, as well as when maneuvering stock carts and equipment through guest areas.

Barista Job Tasks:

  • Demonstrates exceptional guest service skills when selling F&B items to either guests or employees and informs guests of zoo facilities, exhibits and their location.
  • Always prepares various coffee drink and food items according to the recipe and standards.
  • Continually operates cash register and accepts payment for F&B product(s) ensuring accuracy when making change.
  • Always seeks to provide a memorable experience in all guest interaction opportunities, culminating in the “Best Day Ever” for our guest.
  • Is always extremely responsive to guest’s questions regarding food items, prices, methods of preparation, items on sale and availability of various F&B products.
  • Always ensures that assigned area is kept orderly and continually cleans and sanitizes seating area, bar area and all equipment
  • Always takes a proactive approach in ensuring that food-handling procedures are followed.
  • Suggests food and beverages within the Cafe; desserts, sandwiches, pastries etc.
  • Completes all assigned closing job duties in a timely manner by the end of their scheduled shift.
  • Continually uses proper storage and care when handling equipment.
  • Ensures all cases are filled in a clean and neat matter and restocks essential items for shop efficiency.
  • Attempts to control food costs; waste, throw away, etc.
  • Ensures that the proper maintenance for the coffee machines and keg system is completed.
  • Ensures beer, soda, liquor, glassware and paper products are appropriately stocked in the beginning and end of each shift; as well as when leaving for scheduled breaks.
  • Offers drinks suggestions/recommendations to guests when appropriate.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of locations of all required items. Utilizes “Back-Bar Checklist” to ensure all necessary items are present and accounted for. Retrieves required items as needed.
  • Always uses FLAG protocol when serving alcoholic beverages to guests under the age of 35.
  • Consistently adheres to all RGZ policies and NYSLA Laws.
  • Accurately identifies signs of intoxication and stops service to guest in an appropriate manner.
  • Creates a positive experience during the guests bar visit to ensure repeat business.
  • Always immediately notifies Supervisor of any guest service concerns, broken equipment or problems with the bar areas.

Part Time

If you are interested in working in a fast-paced, unique environment, Friends of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo is looking for you!

We are accepting applications to fill part-time positions in both the cafè and other concessions on zoo grounds. Must have availability Monday-Friday and weekend availability is a must. Available hours will be 10-20 per week.

We are seeking candidates who are energetic, customer- and team-oriented. Candidates with food and beverage, customer service or parks experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Essential Job Functions:

Expected to be at workstation at start of shift and adhere to dress code.

  • Responsibilities may include sales, prep work, cleaning, sanitation, restocking or other jobs as assigned.
  • Staff may be required to work in café or other venue sites on zoo grounds.
  • Determines assigned job position using the daily assignment sheet.
  • Stocks assigned area/s to prepare for customers.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions at work site and proper level of product.
  • Cleans and restocks all areas for the following day.
  • Work site must be checked and approved by management prior to end of shift.
  • Adheres to zoo policies and protocols.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Must be flexible; May be required to change work schedule.
  • Must be committed to quality of product and customer service.
  • Ability to work autonomously, as well as with a team, to achieve established goals.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Sets up facilities for events including dishware, glassware etc.
  • Cleans china/silverware.
  • Maintains clean tables and banquet area.
  • Takes orders from customers.
  • Serves courses in timely manner.
  • Assists in breaking down tables after events.
  • Assists in training new staff, when necessary, as directed by Director of Food and Beverage.
  • Provides high levels of customer service at all times.
  • Adheres to Zoo policies and protocols.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Two years serving experience.
  • Food and beverage experience preferred.

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Customer service oriented; Team player; Self-motivated; Able to work in fast paced environment; Able to handle difficult customers.
  • Able to lift moderate to heavy items (50-75 pounds); Continuous standing and walking while carrying items; Shifts may include days, nights and/or weekends.
