Reptile and Amphibian Awareness Day

10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Join us for Reptile and Amphibian Awareness Day at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo on October 25 , from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! Take part in our super special scavenger hunt to learn all about reptiles and amphibians living at the zoo and their wild counterparts. Create crafts and hear from our herpetologist experts as they share what it’s like to care for these incredible creatures, the specialized tools they use every day, and how you can help their populations thrive!
Full schedule (subject to change):
10:30 a.m.- Reptile or Amphibian? Stop by the Eastern hellbender and tiger salamander habitats to learn some differences between reptiles and amphibians. Featuring special guests, Eastern box turtles!
12:30 p.m.- Eastern Massasauga Rattlesnake, a NYS native! Learn what it takes to care for snakes, with a chance to get up-close-and-personal with some important tools including snake handing gear, husbandry supplies, and more!
2:30 p.m.- Diet Demonstration! Visit the Tropical River Exhibit to learn more about diet differences between reptiles and amphibians as you see the Arrau and yellow-spotted river turtles enjoy some tasty food.
